Sensor, WGR968/BOXW Anemometer Review

I purchased one of these units after my area was hit by Hurricane Charlie in August, 2004. It was part of the WMR112SET. While relocating my Oregon Scientific base (WMR112) within my house I started to think about the anemometer that was still working outside. It is a wireless unit that uses a small solar unit for the wireless power and two AA batteries as backup. I put mine up in September of 2004 on top of a 30′ pole with the solar unit lashed directly underneath it pointing skyward. It has been running continuously now for almost 5 years!! It has sat atop that pole for the rest of the heavy 2004 hurricane season and the whopper 2005 season and ever since has been transmitting wind speed and direction. I’ve never replaced the batteries so it doesn’t transmit at night but during the day it does just fine.

I’m more than pleased with it and am looking to buy one for my dad. It has truly lasted much, much longer than I thought it would given its environment.
